Lieutenant General (Ret.) John B. Morrison, Jr. is a proven senior executive and national security leader with over 30 years of experience driving innovation in digital transformation, cyber operations, and strategic organizational leadership. A trailblazer in cyber innovation, he has successfully led large-scale, complex organizations across the Department of Defense and interagency environments, delivering mission-critical communications, cyber, and IT capabilities on a global scale.
John’s career began at the close of the Cold War and spans some of the most defining moments in modern U.S. history—including serving at the Pentagon on September 11th. Over three presidential administrations, he commanded and modernized enterprise-level IT and cyber operations in support of global missions, consistently championing institutional reform, operational agility, and public-private collaboration.
A pioneer in cyberspace operations, John designed and stood up the Nation’s first dedicated cyber defense organization and played a central role in establishing the Department of Defense’s first accredited cyber operations education facility. His leadership has helped shape today’s integrated cyber strategies and laid a foundation for growing and diversifying the national cyber workforce. He has built strong partnerships with leading academic institutions to advance cybersecurity education nationwide.
His broad leadership portfolio includes enterprise executive management, conventional and special operations, disaster response, installation management, strategic resourcing, and professional military education. Known for turning strategy into action, John consistently develops and leads high-performing teams, builds cross-sector coalitions, and drives outcomes in high-stakes environments.
Most recently, he served as the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-6, for the United States Army, where he oversaw the global strategy, planning, and execution of Army-wide communications and cyber operations.
Now in the private sector, John remains passionate about national service, public-private innovation, and developing future servant leaders.
