General Twitty retired from the U.S. Army after 36 years of distinguished military service as an infantry officer. He has commanded units at nearly every echelon and served multiple combat tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait. Prior to retirement in 2020, Steph Twitty served as Deputy Commander of United States European Command (EUCOM) where he was responsible for the day-to-day strategic planning, coordination, integration, and execution of all U.S. air, naval, and land (multi-domain) operations on the European continent. From 2016 to 2018 he was the 38th commander of First Army which partners with Army Reserve and Army National Guard leadership to advise, assist and train Reserve Component formations.

Steph Twitty has extensive experience inside the Pentagon, the Joint Staff, Army Staff, EUCOM, NORTHCOM, CENTCOM, FORSCOM, ISAF-Afghanistan, and Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe. His awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Bronze Star Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Meritorious Service Medal (5 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Joint Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Achievement Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster); the Combat Infantry Badge with Star, the Expert Infantry Badge, Ranger Tab, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Army Staff Identification Badges.
