Amy K. Mitchell is a recognized national security and foreign policy expert, having advised three Secretaries of Defense, several large defense contractors, and having held high-level positions at the Department of State and on Capitol Hill.

A former member of the Senior Executive Service, Ms. Mitchell served as the Special Assistant to Secretary of Defense, General James Mattis. She advised the Secretary on public diplomacy to advance the Department’s critical mission by strengthening international partnerships as well as overseeing all high-level engagements and events. She was awarded the Distinguished Public Service Medal for her service, the Department’s highest civilian honor.

Ms. Mitchell also served as the Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor for the Office of Global Women’s Issues at the State Department, where she advised the Department’s senior leadership on strategic diplomatic initiatives, with an emphasis on the Middle East and Afghanistan, China, and the greater Indo-Pacific region. Ms. Mitchell’s policy background is also complemented by her strong marketing and communication background, forged at the highest levels of government.

Ms. Mitchell’s international relations career began as the deputy director of public relations at the G8 Summit in 2004 in Sea Island, Georgia, under President George W. Bush.

Ms. Mitchell is a founding partner of Kilo Alpha Strategies. She is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara and is currently a Senior Fellow at George Mason University’s National Security Institute; serves on the advisory board of the Vandenberg Coalition; a strategic consultant to military and veterans service organizations; and is on the board of Eagle Online Academy. She has appeared on Voice of America, CNN, and Scripps News, and she has written numerous articles for The National Interest, Foreign Policy and The Hill, among other publications.
