Gordon O. Tanner is a Senior Advisor to The Roosevelt Group.  Prior to joining the firm in October 2017, he was The General Counsel of the Department of the Air Force. He is recognized for his strategic and innovative approach, focus on diversity, results-based leadership, collaborative and decisive management skills, ability to balance risk, and operational perspective. He has over 30 years of experience in Department of Defense organizations and has served as a financial institutions and real estate partner in a large multi-office law firm based in the southeastern United States with concurrent duty in the United States Air Force Reserve.

Mr. Tanner was also Chief Legal Officer and Chief Ethics Official for the Air Force in Washington, D.C. In this role, he served as the chief legal officer of the Air Force and led a team providing policy and legal advice to a global organization consisting of 660,000 active duty, reserve, and civilian personnel. Prior to his appointment, he retired from the Senior Executive Service as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the United States Air Force for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. Mr. Tanner retired as a Colonel in the Air Force Judge Advocate General Corps Reserves. Mr. Tanner is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. Additionally, is a graduate of the Vanderbilt University School of Law, with a Juris Doctor degree.
